En 1998, à l’initiative du Lieu, centre en art actuel, une rencontre internationale s’est tenue à Québec afin de retracer l’art action des vingt dernières années et d’effectuer un retour critique sur les années soixante et soixante-dix.
De ce rassemblement est né l’ouvrage Art Action 1958-1998, un compte rendu des discussions menées par les protagonistes historiques et actuels de l’art performance, explorant quatre décennies de pratiques artistiques dans l’action.
À l’automne 2018, vingt ans après cette rencontre charnière, un événement similaire a eu lieu, couvrant cette fois l’évolution des pratiques performatives à l’échelle mondiale de 1998 à 2018. L’objectif demeurait le même : produire un ouvrage témoignant des recherches et des constats de nos nombreux collaborateurs, poursuivant ainsi le travail entamé sur le sujet vingt ans plus tôt.
La publication Art Action 1998-2018 dresse un bilan des artistes, des pratiques, des organisations et du milieu artistique des régions explorées par le projet, soit plus de 65 pays.
In 1998, at the initiative of Le Lieu, centre en art actuel, an international gathering was held in Quebec City to reflect on twenty years of action art and to critically revisit the 1960s and 1970s.
From this gathering emerged the publication Art Action 1958-1998, a report on the discussions led by historical and contemporary figures of performance art, exploring four decades of artistic practices in action.
In the fall of 2018, twenty years after this pivotal event, a similar gathering took place, this time covering the global evolution of performative practices from 1998 to 2018. The objective remained the same: to produce a publication documenting the research and insights of our many collaborators, thus continuing the work initiated two decades earlier.
The publication Art Action 1998-2018 provides an overview of the artists, practices, organizations, and artistic communities from the regions explored in the project, covering more than 65 countries.
